Technical Questions

  1. When do you need to install a shroud on a submersible borehole pump?

A shroud is needed to cause the water in the bore to flow up past the motor into the pump inlet to assure that there is adequate motor cooling.

For example in a 150mm bore casing a flow rate of 0.9 litres  per second is required to remove the need for a shroud using a 100mm Franklin motor.

  1. What is the PN rating for a valve?

PN is the nominal working pressure rating. The number used to describe PN is 10 times the value the maximum allowable operating pressure at 20˚C in MPa based on a design factor of 1.25.

  1. What is a kinetic air/ vacuum valve?

A kinetic air/vacuum valve will exhaust large quantities of air from the pipeline when it is filled with water at low pipeline pressure (kinetic air release function).

It will allow large quantities of air into the pipe when the internal pressure drops below atmospheric pressure due to transient conditions.(kinetic anti-vacuum function).
